About Us
Poly Techs was conceived at midnight one fateful Wednesday during the
fall of 2005 when Mike called Matt. Expecting yet another annoying
programming call, Matt rushed to the phone, and after looking at his caller
ID reluctantly answered his phone. “WHAT!” Mike
quickly explained, “Dude, this is not a programming call.” He
then went on to describe his dream of affordable computer service on campus;
a service which was greatly lacking. Thus Poly Techs was born during
Winter Quarter 2006.

Michael Minasian
Mike is a 1st year sophomore at Cal Poly, currently living in Yosemite,
and majoring in electrical engineering. Originally from Santa Barbara,
Mike was a successful computer consultant during high school. His computing
background started during his childhood when his father taught him about
early computer systems. He has since gained a wealth of knowledge through
many different experiences.
The largest of those experiences came with experimenting
with his computer. This gave him a knowledge base to fix other people’s
problems. Although for a while he simply helped his family, friends and
neighbors with their computer problems, he soon realized the value of
an internship in the field. He interned at a computer consulting firm
in Santa Barbara at the age of 14. After that experience, he moved on
to open his own computer consulting business in Santa Barbara his junior
year of high school. Starting with neighbors, this small venture eventually
turned into a business with 40+ different customers over the course of
2 years.
Upon coming to Cal Poly, he decided that it was time
to bring his expertise in computers to San Luis Obispo. Hoping
for an even larger business than before, Mike decided it would be a good
idea to team up with Matt and make this business venture a partnership. Thus
Poly Techs was born.
Matt Staniszewski
Matt is a 1st year sophomore computer engineering student attending
Cal Poly who currently lives in Mustang Village. He is originally
from Detroit, Michigan, but plans on making California his permanent home
because he thinks it is an awesome place to be!
He started his first business in 2001 in lawn care
and snow shoveling, but quickly found that he liked
working with computers much more. He worked for several computer service companies and
eventually opened his own company, GPZone Computer Services during the
summer of his junior year in high school. Matt handed his company
over to his partner Karl in Michigan, who currently services more than
50 customers in the Detroit area.
After coming to Cal Poly, Matt decided that he missed
working in the computer industry, and attained a
job working as an IT Technical Assistant for Associated Students Inc.
(ASI) at Cal Poly. However,
he still missed running his own business, and after that phone call from
Mike about going into the computer business together, Matt has been set
on making Poly Techs a reality.
Besides working with computers, Matt likes taking
bike rides around San Luis Obispo and hiking area
trails and mountains in his spare time. He also enjoys long walks on the beach... well
he does, along with just hanging out with people around SLO. Matt
is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
(IEEE) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).
